Vernalization

We start propagating our plants in late summer in our shade house. By the time late fall comes around, our little plant are well rooted and ready for a little cool weather. We move them into our greenhouse in mid October where the temperature is about 60 degrees. By the end of December we turn the heat off and allow our greenhouse to dip down below 40°F for about 5 weeks. This process takes the plants through the natural progression of slowing down their growing and storing their energy as they become dormant. The results of growing, resting, then regrowing are strong, healthy plants that will flourish when planted in the spring.
